Lott transfer + a couple other things

3/31/2012

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia announced Friday evening that junior defensive lineman Derrick Lott will transfer in search of increased playing time elsewhere.

"Derrick and I met and he believes he will have opportunities for more playing time elsewhere," Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a university statement. "We support him and will assist in any way possible during this process."

Lott played in five games and recorded 10 total tackles in his UGA career, including 1.5 tackles for loss.

* In more positive UGA news, it looks like that Clemson-UGA series that seemed on the verge of being canceled might go off after all. Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips made some pretty strong statements Friday about keeping the 2013 and 2014 games on the schedule.

"We ran the numbers and said, ‘OK, how can we save this series, because it’s important to our people,’” he said according to the Greenville News. “The bottom line is this, we’re going to Georgia. I can’t tell you how were going to put all the pieces together, but we are going to play the University of Georgia in ‘13 here, and in ‘14, we’re going to Athens.”

* Former Georgia play-by-play man Larry Munson will be inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame on May 5. He will be joined by famed UT announcers Lindsey Nelson and John Ward in the inaugural induction class. Munson called games at Vanderbilt from 1947 to 1966 before he came to Georgia and became the Bulldogs' beloved radio announcer.
