ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia Bulldogs kicked off G-Day just moments after kicking off the Class of 2015 commitment list. Wide receiver Christian Owens (Griffin, Ga./Griffin) decided after being offered on Tuesday to go ahead and commit to Georgia while attending the pregame ceremonies.

"I was shocked because I was able to get the offer from Mark Richt himself on the phone Thursday. I am grateful for the offer," Owens said. "They have always been good and ever since I was in the third grade; that is where I wanted to go. A few days ago I did not have an offer and now I have a chance to play for the Bulldogs. This does not even seem real.”

Griffin coach Steve Devoursney confirmed the commitment to DawgNation.

Owens is a 6-foot-5, 203-pound sophomore with a 29.9-inch vertical jump. Owens is friends with Georgia safety Corey Moore, who also attended Griffin.

“I watched practice last week and saw Corey playing,” Owens said. “It was great to see someone from my school at Georgia who serves as a role model for me and inspire me to do better.”

Owens was sold on the pitch by his future position coach during his visit.

“I spoke to wide receivers coach Tony Ball and I just liked everything he had to say,” Owens said. “I told my family about my chance to play for Georgia and they were all very excited about me having an opportunity to go to such a great school. They play in the SEC and for Georgia to decide I was good enough to play for them was really big.”
