To gear up for 2013 national signing day, DawgNation's Radi Nabulsi is breaking down every commitment in the Bulldogs' 2013 recruiting class.
Vitals: Quarterback Brice Ramsey, Kingsland, Ga./Camden County | 6-foot-3, 196 pounds
Committed: July 15, 2011
ESPN.com grade: 83. Four-star prospect.
ESPN.com rankings: No. 84 in ESPN 150, No. 8 quarterback, No. 43 in Southeast region, No. 8 in Georgia
Picked Georgia over: Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Florida State and others
State of the position: With the news that Aaron Murray plans to return for his senior year and that Hutson Mason is so far not looking to transfer, Georgia is loaded at quarterback. Faton Bauta took a redshirt this past season and Christian LeMay had limited snaps in 2012. Walk-on Parker Welch actually received more snaps in mop-up duty than LeMay did.
Pros: “Ramsey is extremely accurate in the short and intermediate ranges of the field. Throws with touch, timing and zip all at once. Throws a catchable ball and does a nice job of leading receivers. He is an excellent mid-range touch passer throwing to a spot. Has a lot of experience in this area, but not much within the pocket or out of I-formation. He sells fakes, extends ball/hand, dips shoulders and snaps his head around nicely to get eyes downfield. Is also a left-footed place kicker, kickoff specialist and punter.” -- ESPN scouting report
Cons: “He is behind the curve in the passing game in a run-oriented offense with limited throws. Lanky with above average height and a late-bloomer's frame, he is thin and still filling out and likely will always be slight of build. He lacks great overall bulk and strength at this stage. He may lack a powerful vertical arm.” -- ESPN scouting report
Similar to/potential role: Physically, Ramsey resembles Mason but he is not coming from a pass-happy offense like Mason had at Lassiter High School. Ramsey has had limited chances to throw the ball but has made the most of them. Tom Luginbill of Scouts Inc. said Ramsey reminds him of former Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker.
Expected impact: 2015. Any thoughts of Ramsey starting as a freshman went out the window when Aaron Murray announced he was coming back for his senior season. This will actually benefit Ramsey, just as Murray’s redshirt year helped him. The following year Ramsey will compete against senior Mason, junior LeMay and sophomore Bauta.
