Florida State defensive end commit Davin Bellamy (Chamblee, Ga./Chamblee) knows he created a stir by visiting Georgia for the Bulldogs' contest with Ole Miss. The ESPN 300 senior said it was more a matter of having a good time than re-evaluating his recruitment.
“It was OK, nothing too spectacular,” Bellamy said. “It was just a fun trip. I talked to Coach [Rodney] Garner and Ben [Brandenburg] -- one of the recruiting guys. Every time I go to UGA, Coach Garner and me have a conversation with each other. I caught up with some of the commits that were there and that I had become friends with. I hung out with Nick Glass (Atlanta/St. Pius X) last night. So it was all good.”
Some of Georgia’s committed prospects were working on Bellamy to get him to flip his commitment.
“They are always, always on me,” Bellamy said. “Nick was saying Florida State doesn't turn up like Athens does. All of the other players kind of throw that in my face. Nick was really trying to show me a good time last night.”
When asked if the nightlife in downtown Athens could sway him, Bellamy said it would not.
“No sir,” Bellamy said. “I am 100 percent committed to Florida State. I mean, UGA is like an hour from my house, so on a Saturday when I don’t have anything to do, I can go catch a game and get out of the house. If Florida State were an hour away I would be doing the same thing.”
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound defender said he did not tell the Seminoles’ coaches that he was going to visit Georgia.
“I didn't tell them but I am sure they know now,” Bellamy said. “This wasn't my first visit to Georgia. They knew about the last one and they didn't even bring it up after I went to see the Georgia-Tennessee game. I don’t think they are worried at all. I gave my word to the organization and I think they understand that. So they know I am only taking these trips because you are only a recruit once in your life.”
Bellamy has only visited Georgia so far this season but had intended to go to Mississippi State. He wound up having to cancel because of a scheduling conflict.
“I will be at that Florida State-Florida game on Nov. 26,” Bellamy said.
