As expected, Georgia picked up a 2012 road game against SEC newcomer Missouri and dropped a visit to Alabama, according to the conference football schedule released by the SEC on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs will be Missouri’s first official SEC opponent on Sept. 8, when they visit Columbia. That will move Georgia’s traditional early-season meeting with South Carolina to later on the schedule.

The other SEC rookie, Texas A&M, will host Florida on the same day.

Georgia maintains its previously announced non-conference opposition -- the Sept. 1 home opener against Buffalo; Sept. 15 vs. Florida Atlantic; Nov. 17 vs. Georgia Southern; and Nov. 24 vs. Georgia Tech -- while continuing to play an eight-game SEC slate.

In addition to their visit to Missouri, the Bulldogs will host Vanderbilt on Sept. 22 and Tennessee on Sept. 29. They will visit South Carolina on Oct. 6 and Kentucky on Oct. 20 before facing Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., on Oct. 27. They will then wrap up their conference schedule with a home game against Ole Miss on Nov. 3 and a visit to Auburn on Nov. 10.

The Bulldogs will play seven home games, four on the road and the annual neutral-site game against Florida.

League officials maintained throughout the scheduling process that the SEC would stick with an eight-game conference schedule in 2012 despite the league’s additions. According to Wednesday’s schedule release, the conference’s athletic directors will meet in the spring to discuss scheduling principles for the future -- which could include an expanded nine-game SEC slate.

“The SEC transition team and our athletic directors did a great job with significant logistical challenges in a short time frame in developing the 2012 football conference schedule,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said in the league announcement. “The ability to come together for the conference is what makes the SEC so strong and that was evident yet again in this process.”
