ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs asserted themselves early en route to a 48-3 blowout win over visiting Vanderbilt.

It was over when: Vanderbilt showed no ability to stop Georgia in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs removed any doubt that they would win easily when they quickly drove 57 yards and scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Murray to Tavarres King early in the second quarter to go up 20-0.

Game ball goes to: Todd Grantham and his defense. Nobody has forgotten the postgame screaming match between Georgia defensive coordinator Grantham and Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin from last season. Grantham’s group made its point in the rematch by manhandling the Commodores throughout.

Stat of the game: 40+. Georgia scored 40-plus points yet again, marking the first time in school history the Bulldogs have scored at least that many points in four consecutive games. Last week marked the first time Georgia had scored 40-plus in its first three games to open a season, so that streak continues, as well.

How the game was won: Vanderbilt shot itself in the foot with a handful of first-quarter penalties, and Georgia capitalized with touchdowns on its first four possessions. By halftime, Georgia had outgained Vandy 303 yards to 136 and already led 27-3.

What it means: Georgia’s blowout victory -- on the same day that South Carolina and Florida both earned easy SEC East wins -- means the Eastern Division race should be much more entertaining than anyone might have expected before the season. All three teams might be ranked in the top 10 in the new polls released on Sunday.
