By the numbers: Vanderbilt at Georgia

Editor’s note: Each week, the good folks at ESPN Stats and Information will help us take a look inside the numbers that matter prior to Georgia’s games. We’ll share some of their data here on the blog every Friday this fall.

VANDERBILT AT NO. 5 GEORGIA

Saturday, 7:45 p.m. ET

Sanford Stadium/Athens, Ga.

* If you’re wondering why Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray made a leap up Heisman Trophy contender rankings this week, his stat-padding effort against Florida Atlantic certainly didn’t hurt.

After seven of his 14 completions against FAU went for 25 yards or more, Murray now has 12 completions of 25-plus this season -- the most among all quarterbacks in the FBS.

His 12 throws of 25-plus this season:

* 49 yards to Malcolm Mitchell, Florida Atlantic

* 25 yards to Tavarres King, Florida Atlantic

* 36 yards to Arthur Lynch (TD), Florida Atlantic

* 29 yards to Michael Bennett, Florida Atlantic

* 67 yards to Bennett, Florida Atlantic

* 28 yards to King, Florida Atlantic

* 34 yards to Marlon Brown, Florida Atlantic

* 40 yards to Brown, Missouri

* 34 yards to King, Missouri

* 38 yards to Rantavious Wooten (TD), Buffalo

* 63 yards to King (TD), Buffalo

* 32 yards to Bennett, Buffalo

* Since the start of 2011, Georgia’s defense has forced 78 three-and-outs, which leads the FBS.

The Bulldogs have forced 18 three-and-outs in the first three games: eight against Florida Atlantic, six against Buffalo and four against Missouri. Of the 18 they forced, nine were in the first half and nine in the second half.

The Bulldogs forced Vanderbilt into three three-and-outs and four turnovers in their meeting last season, a 33-28 Georgia victory.

* Vanderbilt has 55 three-and-out offensive drives since the start of 2011, which ranks 109th in the FBS.

The Commodores have 10 three-and-outs this season, but only one three-and-out in last week’s 58-0 win against Presbyterian. They had five against Northwestern and four against South Carolina -- both losses.
