ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia announced Monday that it will name new annual football team awards in honor of Bulldogs greats and College Football Hall of Famers Frank Sinkwich and Charley Trippi.

Beginning this fall, the Sinkwich Award will go to the Bulldogs' toughest player and the Trippi Award will go to the team's most versatile player.

"It must have been a special experience to see these two great Georgia players compete on the field," Georgia coach Mark Richt said Monday in a university release. "It's appropriate to have two awards honoring Sinkwich and Trippi, both of whom were great players, graduates of the University, and always willing to give back to their alma mater."

With all of the talent coming from Georgia for 2013, the Crimson Tide is making the Peach State a priority in recruiting. Alabama already has the commitment of one of the state’s top players in Reuben Foster, and a plethora of other top Georgia prospects are on the Tide’s radar. UA hosted a number of those recruits Saturday for its second junior day, and TideNation caught up with three of the players who made the trip.

WR Burse close to an offer

Alpharetta, Ga., wide receiver Carlos Burse didn’t get the scholarship offer he was hoping for Saturday when he visited the University of Alabama, but he feels like the Crimson Tide may still be close to offering.

ESPN's Brad Edwards writes Insider: The playoff format that is most likely to come from the discussions taking place this week involves a four-team playoff. Well, when your conference is running away with the race for most annual top-four finishers, things could work out. A conference that doesn’t need much help could get another bump if the playoff format breaks this way.

A family trip had to have at least a little football intertwined.

Uriah LeMay traveled to Athens, Ga., this weekend to visit his brother Christian LeMay, who is a freshman quarterback for the Bulldogs. The visit was much more about football than family.

Yet Georgia fans were probably a bit excited when the younger LeMay posted a picture of himself with a Bulldog hat and T-shirt on Facebook with a caption that read “gota blend in lol”.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Mark Fox didn’t mince words when asked Sunday about Vanderbilt guard John Jenkins’ shooting ability.

“He’s the best shooter I’ve ever coached against,” Georgia’s coach said of Jenkins, who scored 16 of his 28 points in the second half as Vanderbilt rallied for a 61-52 win at Stegeman Coliseum. “He’s phenomenal, he really is.”

Thanks to Jenkins’ sharpshooting from beyond the 3-point line -- he was 6-for-8 on 3-point attempts, three of which came during a 15-0 run that gave the Commodores the lead for good -- Vanderbilt (19-8, 8-4 SEC) won for the third time in four games.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia needs a minor miracle to reach the NCAA tournament, but the Bulldogs are still in play for a postseason berth of some sort.

Georgia (12-13, 3-8 SEC) would have to win the SEC tournament next month to sneak into the NCAA tournament field, but if it finishes at or around .500, earning a spot in the NIT or CBI is possible.

UGA offers juco OL Trenton Brown

The Georgia Bulldogs have not had a lot of luck building depth on the offensive line, and this most recent recruiting class is a prime example. The Bulldogs were able to sign only three linemen since Chester Brown had to decommit due to a new immigration rule.

With an emphasis again on building up the offensive line for the 2013 class, the coaches in Athens have turned to juco offensive lineman Trenton Brown of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.

“They offered me about 30 minutes ago,” Brown told DawgNation. “I came in the athletic facility to get some treatment and Coach [Joe] Windon told me they offered. It is a blessing, and I give all the honor to God. It is my second offer, and Georgia is in my top five. The others are Florida State, Alabama, Texas and LSU.”

SUWANEE, Ga. -- When Georgia fans heard there was a 6-foot-5, 317-pound offensive tackle named DeVondre Seymour at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga., the first question posed was, “Is he related to Richard?”

Richard in this case is six-time NFL Pro Bowl defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who was twice voted All-SEC while playing for the Bulldogs. The fans were breathless when they found out DeVondre was indeed related to Richard, as the havoc-inducing Oakland Raider had adopted his nephew DeVondre as his own son.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Signing day has come and gone, but LSU is still trying to plug some missing holes in the class of 2012.

The Tigers search has taken them to the College of San Mateo, a junior college in California, this past week.

There, LSU is hoping to secure the services of San Mateo offensive tackle Fehoko Fanaika, the school’s standout offensive guard in the 2012 class. LSU joined the likes of stalwart programs such as Georgia and Nebraska when offensive line coach Greg Studrawa called to offer Fanaika a scholarship.
