The individual player workouts hit full swing Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine and two players from Georgia -- offensive lineman Cordy Glenn and tight end Orson Charles -- were among the early winners.

The 6-foot-6, 345-pound Glenn drew rave reviews from scouts and analysts for his performances in multiple measurable drills, showing good speed and strength that might help him crack the first round in the upcoming draft.

Glenn ran a 5.19-second 40-yard dash -- the sixth-best time among offensive linemen -- which NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock described as "a ridiculous number" for a player Glenn's size. He also completed 31 repetitions of 225 pounds in the bench press, which ranked eighth among offensive linemen.

Game rewind: Georgia 76, Florida 62

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia’s 76-62 win against Florida on Saturday was a big upset by any measure, but it’s not like the Bulldogs stole a win from the 12th-ranked Gators.

Not only did the Bulldogs never trail, they led even before the opening tipoff.

Gerald Robinson hit a pair of free throws before tipoff after the referees called an administrative technical foul on Florida’s Casey Prather for dunking during pregame warmups. It was a precursor of things to come, as Robinson and the Bulldogs (13-15, 4-10 SEC) would score with uncharacteristic efficiency throughout while the Gators (22-7, 10-4) regularly shot themselves in the foot.

Rapid reaction: Georgia 76, Florida 62

How the game was won: Georgia (13-15, 4-10 SEC) came out of the gates hot, hitting 54 percent of its shots in the first half, while No. 12 Florida’s perimeter-based offense struggled. The Bulldogs led 36-27 at halftime and for around double digits for much of the second half. The Bulldogs played off the energy from an enthusiastic home crowd at Stegeman Coliseum -- Georgia’s first good crowd since a loss to Kentucky in late January -- to hand the Gators (22-7, 10-4) an unsightly SEC loss.

Stat of the game: 53 percent. Georgia shot only 36 percent in its 22-point loss at Florida earlier this season, but the Bulldogs were uncharacteristically efficient on offense for much of Saturday’s contest. The Bulldogs made 27 of 51 shots from the floor, good for a 53-percent field-goal percentage.

Player of the game: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Georgia’s freshman guard scored only eight points and went 3-for-13 from the floor in the Bulldogs’ visit to Gainesville, but he was a force on Saturday. KCP led five Bulldogs in double figures with 18 points, including a resounding breakaway dunk with 48 seconds remaining that pushed Georgia’s lead back into double digits.

Unsung hero of the game: Nemanja Djurisic. The freshman forward scored seven points and grabbed three rebounds in a two-minute stretch of the second half where Georgia pushed its lead to 15 points and the possibility of an upset grew more likely.

What it means: Georgia entered the game on a serious slump, having lost three in a row, but the win against the hated Gators was unquestionably the Bulldogs’ biggest win of the year. Florida lost one of its most significant frontcourt players when Will Yeguete went down with a season-ending broken foot on Tuesday against Auburn. In his absence, the Gators seem to have lost some of their defensive energy -- a problem they will need to remedy before the SEC tournament begins.

Juco athlete Mario Alford (Milledgeville, Ga./Georgia Military College) was expecting to visit Athens today and hopefully pick up an offer from the Georgia Bulldogs. That will not happen this weekend.

Because of a simple mistake with paperwork, Alford has yet to be cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. That has to happen before he is allowed to visit.

Size mismatch lessened by Gator's injury

ATHENS, Ga. -- The physical disadvantages Georgia (12-15, 3-10 SEC) has faced in the frontcourt this season have been obvious.

“I’d say you can count on one hand the number of times we’ve been physically even up front,” Georgia coach Mark Fox said.

Saturday’s 4 p.m. ET home game against No. 11 Florida (22-6, 10-3) might be one time where the Bulldogs’ post players don’t face a decided physical mismatch -- particularly after Gators forward Will Yeguete suffered a season-ending broken foot in Tuesday’s win against Auburn.

All eyes on Watch List's Montravius Adams

ESPNU150 Watch List defensive tackle Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County) is getting attention from all over, but he ranks home-state Georgia -- which he'll visit for "Very Important Dawg Day" on March 3 -- among the favorites for his services.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound rising senior -- who accounted for a whopping 45 tackles for loss last season -- ranks Georgia, Clemson and USC as the three schools that intrigue him most to this point.

Not that there is any shortage of college options for the big lineman. Every school in the SEC except LSU and Vanderbilt has already offered a scholarship and that offer list continues to grow rapidly.

ESPN RecruitingNation Southeast regional coordinator Jamie Newberg caught up with Adams this week to get the latest, including which high school all-star game he plans to compete in. Check it out here.

The SEC's top defenses shouldn't fall off

Speed and athleticism are always immediately mentioned when talking about SEC defenses, but there’s a mental side that’s often overlooked.

For Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson, it’s the first thing he notices when he sees youngsters competing in practices. Their speed is always impressive, but the way younger players are dissecting and learning defenses these days has Johnson shocked. It also has defensive coordinators around the league giddy with the thought of not having to simplify things for youngsters.

Georgia offers two from ESPNU Watch List

The Georgia football coaches have kept quite busy lately sending out offers and setting up visits for top targets. Thursday was more of the same, as the Bulldogs offered two more out-of-state prospects. Coach Mark Richt has always placed a priority on in-state talent, but he has also been known to go after exceptional players from across the nation. The two latest offers, both to members of the ESPNU 150 Watch List, are no exception.

“They offered today,” said linebacker Alexander Anzalone (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) “It went really well. I talked to Coach [Kirk] Olivadotti and he was just saying how he loves my athleticism and he thinks I would be a great fit at Georgia at linebacker.”

Exeter is just more than 13 hours away from Athens, but Anzalone said distance doesn’t matter.

Georgia lands juco DB Steven Nelson

Georgia secondary coach Scott Lakatos knows he will need experienced help in 2013. Graduation will take both of his starting cornerbacks and safeties. Luckily, for Lakatos, help was only a phone call away. Defensive back Steven Nelson (Warner Robins, Ga./College of the Sequoias) committed to Georgia this evening.

“Yes, sir, I committed as a cornerback and a punt return specialist,” Nelson told DawgNation. “Actually, I called Coach Lakatos earlier between some of my classes and we talked for a good 30, 45 minutes. He told me they liked my style of play, my size and speed, and he just laid it out and said they were going to offer me. I told him I would call him back. I called my defensive backs coach out here and he said I needed to commit, so that’s what I did.”

Nelson's conversation with his position coach Fred Zepeda was a short one.

It's safe to say that ESPNU Watch List member Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) can play a little ball.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety had never spoken to any member of Texas' coaching staff before today, but by 8:30 p.m. he had an offer.

"I called them eariler today and they said they were very interested," Bell said. "I wasn't sure if I had been offered the first time I spoke with them so I called them back and I asked if I had been offered and [defensive backs] coach [Duane] Akina said that I answered my own question."

Beckham’s No. 6 on field again

ATHENS, Ga. -- If Georgia’s baseball program ever starts the process of retiring numbers, Gordon Beckham’s No. 6 would likely be among the top candidates.

As of now, however, a Bulldogs player is actually wearing the uniform number for the first time since 2008, when Beckham wore it while putting together one of the best offensive seasons in school history.

Freshman slugger Hunter Cole brought No. 6 out of the moth balls -- and Bulldogs coach David Perno can only hope Cole enjoys similar success while wearing it.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Could Georgia receiver Malcolm Mitchell contribute at cornerback in the fall? Will outside linebacker Ray Drew play some defensive end? And could tailback Richard Samuel chip in at fullback?

These are typical offseason questions on the minds of many Bulldogs fans as the team moves toward spring practice.

And according to coach Mark Richt, the answers are yes, yes and yes.

Rapid reaction: LSU 61, Georgia 53

February, 23, 2012
2/23/12
12:09
AM ET
How the game was won: LSU (17-10, 7-6 SEC) led the entire game and earned a valuable SEC win after holding off two Georgia (12-15, 3-10) charges in the second half in which the Bulldogs cut the Tigers’ lead to two points, and another that cut it to four in the closing minutes.

Turning point: LSU jumped to a 10-0 lead in the game’s opening minutes and would hold the lead for the rest of the game.

Stat of the game: 23. LSU shot 23 more free throws than Georgia did. The Tigers were 18-for-30 from the foul line, while the Bulldogs were only 5-for-7.

Player of the game: Andre Stringer. The LSU guard scored a game-high 18 points, including a 4-for-9 effort from 3-point range, to lead his team to victory. Stringer and Ralston Turner hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the game’s closing minutes to pace an 8-2 run that put away the win.

What it means: Georgia loses its third consecutive SEC game to fall three games below .500. That makes a postseason trip increasingly unlikely. LSU, meanwhile, is a game above .500 with games against Ole Miss, Auburn and Tennessee remaining, giving the Tigers reason to believe an NCAA tournament is still a strong possibility.
ATHENS, Ga. -- Max Garcia committed to Maryland in December 2009, choosing to play for the Terrapins over Clemson and Vanderbilt.

If he follows through on his announced intention to transfer, Garcia (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) will have his choice of scholarship offers from a group of heavy hitters.

Georgia is among the schools pursuing the sophomore offensive tackle -- who grew up only 50 miles from Athens -- along with SEC rivals Florida, Auburn and Ole Miss.
