August, 29, 2012
Every season the stars of college football change. The crop is turned over and we meet the new faces of the sport. Sometimes those players jump out and surprise us, rising from part-time role players to the feature of an offense or defense. Who will those players be in 2012? Travis Haney looks at 30 potential breakout players this season.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Heading into his senior season, safety Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) is still trying to figure out which programs to focus on. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound member of the ESPN 150 is hoping to get his officials set up during the season and says his plan is to take visits until he finds the right program. While he doesn't have a top group, a couple of programs have caught the defensive back's eye this summer.

The Texas Longhorns have been able to get Harris on campus, and it looks like they will also get a chance to show him what game day is like in Austin.

ESPN 150 DB Harris takes in FSU camp

July, 19, 2012
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – ESPN 150 defensive back Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) decided to make a last-minute trip to Florida State on Thursday for the afternoon session of the Jimbo Fisher Camp.

The 6-foot-1, 209-pound senior took a few minutes to work out and catch up with FSU defensive coordinator Mark Stoops.

“Yeah I just did two drills and I was chilling after that, watching some of the other guys go,” Harris said. “I worked with coach Stoops a little bit and we talked in the football office a little bit before that. I was in there with a couple other guys and they wanted to try to all of us up here so they were excited about that.”

Harris says that he also keeps in touch with offensive line coach Rick Trickett, who recruits the Orlando area for the program.

ESPN 150 safety Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) has heard it all before. He's heard the doubters say that he's too big to play safety and should prepare for a future as a linebacker.

Harris admitted it was a motivating tool for his efforts at The Opening this past week.

"I did go there with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder because I'm a safety and I want people to see that I can be a very good safety," Harris said. "I'm a bigger safety; I'm unique for the position but I've worked hard to succeed at this position.

When tight end Christian Morgan (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) announced his commitment Tuesday to Florida State, few were happier for him than good friend and Texas-bound 2013 commitment Jake Raulerson (Celina, Texas/Celina).

Raulerson, an ESPN 150 offensive lineman, has known Morgan since the two were attending camps in the eighth grade. The two were seen posing for pictures after Morgan’s announcement -- Morgan in his Florida State ball cap and Raulerson in his Longhorns cap.
