Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. That is what college coaches must do when it comes to recruiting. Every coach would love to land their top target at every position, but coaches are forced to play the what-ifs and continue to recruit prospects lower on the recruiting board. With signing day a few months away and several classes close to completion, college staffs are pushing for those few final targets but also keeping a watchful eye on players down the board.

Here are the best- and worst-case scenarios for each of the ACC schools.

FSU recruiting: Positions of need

NoleNation takes a quick look at five positions of need in this 2014 recruiting class.

Offensive tackle

Florida State enters this 2013 with only one certain starter at offensive tackle. Cam Erving, the starting left tackle, is a redshirt junior and could very well jump to the NFL draft after this season, given his high projections. Bobby Hart has played a lot in his first two seasons and could end up being the right tackle. From the Class of 2013, just Wilson Bell is capable of playing tackle, but could just as well end up on the interior depending on how things shake out.

Commitments: Ethan Frith (Summit, Miss./North Pike)

Top targets: Damian Prince (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara), Roderick Johnson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jimbo Fisher has added another wide receiver to his 2014 recruiting class.

Ryan Sousa (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) committed to the Seminoles during Thursday’s prospect camp session, his coach Anthony Paradiso confirmed. The 6-foot, 177-pound Sousa joins Markell Pack (Purvis, Miss./Purvis) and C.J. Worton (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) as the other pass-catchers in the group. ESPN 150 athlete JoJo Robinson (Miami/Northwestern) also projects as a wide receiver.

Sousa chose the Seminoles over offers from FAU, Missouri, Rutgers, UCF, UCLA and Wake Forest. He is the 11th commitment in Florida State’s 2014 class.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- It's Rankings Week at Nole Nation, and each day we'll be counting down the top teams, players and matchups of the 2013 season. In our last installment, we look at FSU's top recruiting needs for the Class of 2014.

1. Offensive tackle

It's been a relatively prolonged dry spell on the recruiting trail for FSU when it comes to the offensive line, with tackle in particular being a concern. As it stands, the Seminoles have three natural tackles projected on the roster beyond 2013, but Bobby Hart remains a wild card after an up-and-down two years, Wilson Bell has yet to arrive on campus and Cameron Erving could be headed to the NFL early if he turns in a strong junior campaign. Florida State needs to make a splash with this class, adding not only at least one or two game-ready options, but depth as well.

Florida State's wide receiver corps are in good shape entering 2013, as WR is arguably the Seminoles' strongest position group.

But at some point, this group is going to have to be restocked and retooled. And the 2014 recruiting cycle is a good place to start.

The Seminoles will take a handful in the Class of 2014.

McCrary decommits from Florida State

ESPN Watch List wide receiver Jake McCrary (Miami/Coral Reef) has decided to remove himself from Florida State's 2014 commitment list.

The junior prospect has added a bunch of offers since his commitment to the Seminoles last July and now has options including Boise State, Clemson, Florida, Kansas State, LSU, Marshall, Ohio State and USF.

McCrary has not shut the door on Florida State, though. He says he will continue to continue considering the Seminoles as his recruitment progresses, but wanted to take a step back and reevaluate the situation.

With the removal of McCrary's name, FSU is down to six commitments for the class of 2014. C.J. Worton (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) and J.C. Jackson (Immokalee, Fla./Immokalee) are the lone wide receiver commitments in the class, although JoJo Robinson (Miami/Northwestern) could end up at the position as well.

FSU commitment performance watch

As the prep schedule winds down, NoleNation looks at some of the top performances from players committed to Florida State regardless of class. Here are this week's top five:

Joseph Yearby (Miami/Miami Central): In a week when many of Florida State's top performances from commitments came from juniors, Yearby might have topped them all. He ran for more than 100 yards on the ground and contributed two rushing touchdowns. Yearby also found paydirt through the air to round off a complete performance. The ESPN Watch List tailback committed to Florida State's 2014 class last spring.

JoJo Robinson (Miami/Northwestern): Versatile athlete Jojo Robinson made an impact for his Miami Northwestern team this week. He racked up more than 50 all-purpose yards as a running back and receiver and also caught a touchdown pass. The junior committed to Florida State over the summer and has offers from LSU, Miami and Southern Cal.

Earning and accepting commitments of underclassmen comes with a certain degree of risk.

Coaches know more often than not how they will fill out, where they can project and what to expect of these prospects by the time they are seniors. But still, a lot can happen in a year.

Florida State has six commitments in the 2014 class. And they all come from the state of Florida.

FSU gets hooks into greater Miami

Though the Seminoles did not sign a single player from the Greater Miami area in 2012, they have begun to make their home in one of the most talent-rich cities in the country.

The 2013 haul isn't complete yet, true, but it already is a marked increase from just a year ago.

The Seminoles have commitments from Adrian Baker, Michael Johnson, and Jesus Wilson -- all of whom look to be heading into the defensive backfield. But some of the biggest targets left on their board reside at Miami's Booker T. Washington in outside linebacker Matthew Thomas and offensive lineman Denver Kirkland.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State coaches focused on the details in trying to finalize their next targets for a growing 2013 recruiting class -- and lay the foundation for 2014 and 2015 -- during the July session of Jimbo Fisher Camp.

There was neither a flurry of commitments from seniors nor large quantities of offers being distributed.
