Clemson adds, Florida State subtracts
By Corey Dowlar
Clemson adds two commitments before kickoff
Before Clemson and Georgia even kicked off on Saturday evening, the Tigers made a huge impact in recruiting by landing commitments from two prized prospects according to published reports.
2015 running back Van Smith (Charlotte, N.C./West Mecklenburg) and 2014 safety Jefferie Gibson jumped on board with head coach Dabo Swinney. Both are three-star prospects, but Smith is in the ESPN Junior 300.
Gibson will bring length to the defensive backfield with a long 6-foot-4 frame at 6-foot-4 that he can add weight to easily. ESPN's scouts say he might need a year to redshirt, but if he doesn't, he might be able to contribute on special teams.
Smith, meanwhile, checks in at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. ESPN's scouts say that he will need to work on his acceleration, but he's got plenty of time to do that.
Florida State loses speedster
Javonte Seabury (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) wasn't a crucial part of the Seminoles' recruiting class, but he was the fastest member of it.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound athlete can flat out fly. But on Saturday, Seabury took to Twitter to announce that he and Florida State had parted ways, at least for now.
Seabury said that he's still considering the Seminoles, but just felt that he rushed his decision. So he'll take a step back and reevaluate where he's at.
Florida State is now at 23 commitments for the 2014 class.
