Target profile: Tony Brown

By Corey Dowlar

Target: ESPN 150 CB Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen), 6-foot, 196 pounds.

Status: Undeclared

Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Rutgers, South Carolina, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC and West Virginia.

Interesting note: Was named the Toughest Competitor at The Opening by ESPN's Tom Luginbill. He stood out for his high energy level and willingness to even play offense. Luginbill complimented his work ethic and physical style of play. Overall, Brown is a player that just wants to win.

Major players: Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and Texas.

Primary recruiter from Florida State: Florida State's apparent national recruiter, Tim Brewster, is overseeing the Seminoles' pursuit of Brown. Brewster has good ties to the state of Texas and already landed tight end Mavin Saunders from the Lone Star State. Florida State's position in the top group for Brown has a lot to do with Brewster's efforts.

The skinny: Florida State has some work to do if it is going to land the four-star prospect.

It's always hard to land top-end talents out of Texas. It's even harder when an SEC school, such as LSU, is considered the favorite. Not only would Florida State have to overcome the usual in-state allegiances, but they now also have to overcome one of the SEC West powers.

With all that said, the Seminoles still find themselves in the top group for Brown. And sometimes that is all you can ask for.

Florida State will try to get Brown on campus as much as possible, wow him on an official visit and see where things go from there. It'll have their shot to impress, but is there too much ground to make up already?
