Five-star DT Brown to decide this weekend
By Derek Tyson
Five-star defensive tackle Andrew Brown (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Frommel Smith) will make his college decision on Saturday. The No. 3-ranked player in the country will announce his decision during a live chat with RecruitingNation.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound athlete, who will compete in The Opening this weekend, said he is ready to end the recruiting process.
"I decided to go ahead and make my decision so I could focus on my senior season," Brown said. "I just don't want to be stressing out about everything."
Brown, who will decide between Virginia, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Clemson, said there are several factors that will go into his decision.
"I'm looking for where I'm going to be comfortable at," Brown said. "I'm looking at the educational value, the football -- will it prepare me for the next level? Pretty much what place will turn me into a man."
Brown is one of 162 players invited to participate at The Opening and said he is looking forward to showcasing his skills.
"I just want to go and have fun," Brown said. "Very few people get invited to this and I feel blessed and thankful to have the opportunity to participate in this event. I'm going to take advantage of this opportunity, I'm going to go out there and have some fun and compete, announce my decision and enjoy my senior year."
Whichever school Brown does choose on Saturday will be getting one of the top defensive linemen in the country. ESPN's scouts say Brown has the tools to be a disruptive force inside on the next level.
"Brown is a defensive lineman with experience at the end position, made a move inside as a junior, which is a more ideal fit for him," Brown's scouting report says. "Will benefit by further development as an interior player and has the tools to be a real disruptive force inside as both a run defender and interior pass-rusher. This is a very good player now with upside to develop physically and as a player."
As a junior, Brown totaled 83 tackles, including 11 sacks and 14 for loss.
