Tales From The Road: Florida State
By Corey Dowlar
Each week Tale From The Road will provide news updates about where FSU coaches are visiting and what prospects are standing out.
This week's targets: Florida State commitment Delvin Purifoy (Pensacola, Fla./Catholic) was visited by his future position coach, Charles Kelly. Purifoy is the nation's No. 6 outside linebacker and No. 106 prospect overall in the ESPN150. The nation's No. 2 wide receiver, Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, La./John Curtis Christian), said that he had two Seminoles coaches come by to check in on him. He's teammates with safety Mattrell McGraw who also holds a Florida State offer.
Area of interest: Most of the visits occurred outside of Florida so far this week. Louisiana, in particular, had some volume. FSU also had coaches in Texas and will have another one in Pennsylvania to see quarterback commitment J.J. Cosentino. Florida State will continue to hit its own state hard over the next couple of weeks while continuing to maintain relationships with offered prospects out of state.
Prospect performance: Florida State's targets haven't had any recent events.
Word on the street: Q: What's the latest with Matthew Thomas? Florida State and Thomas are still waiting to meet and talk things over after his latest request to be released from his scholarship. Once Thomas' mother is back in the country, a meeting should be set up shortly after. There is still a chance the Seminoles can straighten things out, but it does not appear likely that he will be given his release.
What to watch: As FSU's coaches continue to monitor spring practices in Florida, expect more and more offers to go out inside the state. Coaches are generally careful with offers to in-state prospects, so when the Seminoles offer someone in Florida, it usually means they are serious about pursuing the prospect to the end.
