Minnesota prospects pick up Mizzou offers
By Jared Shanker
While not generally thought of as a recruiting ground for Missouri, the state of Minnesota is not all that far from The Show-Me State, and the Tigers sent out two offers this weekend to prospects from Minnesota.
Offensive tackle Frank Ragnow (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) and 2015 defensive end/linebacker Jashon Cornell (St. Paul/Cretin-Derham Hall) visited Missouri for the spring game this past weekend, and both left with offers.
It is the fourth offer for Ragnow, who also has scholarships from Florida State, Minnesota and South Florida.
“I really like the whole coaching staff. They treated me really good,” Ragnow said. “I like their facilities, and they're doing renovations to the stadium right now.”
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Cornell is one of the top 2015 players in the Midwest and already boasts offers from the likes of Florida, Notre Dame, USC and Wisconsin. Most programs to offer Cornell have not told him whether it is for linebacker or defensive end, but the Tigers already have an idea as to where they hope Cornell will play for them.
“They see me as a defensive end,” Cornell said. “They like my long arms and how quick I am and how fast I am off the line.”
Like Ragnow, Cornell also raved about how the coaching staff treated him while visiting.
“They were good to me, talked to me about academics. That was the first thing they talked about,” Cornell said. “And the Black & Gold game was really exciting.”
Neither Cornell nor Ragnow have named any top groups, but Florida State is making an early impression on Ragnow. Seminoles offensive line coach Rick Trickett and Ragnow talk several times a week.
“He talks about the guys he’s sent to the NFL and how badly he needs tackles, and the other day he guaranteed [Ragnow would be] no deeper than second string,” Ragnow said. “I’d have a chance to start my freshman year.”
