ESPN 150 WR Scott talks recruiting
By Derek Tyson
BRADENTON, Fla. -- ESPN 150 wide receiver Artavis Scott (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake), as expected, was one of the top wideouts in attendance at the IMG 7v7 Southeast regional championships over the weekend.
The four-star wide receiver visited Michigan recently and said he enjoyed his experience in Ann Arbor.
ESPN 150 wide receiver Artavis Scott has interest in Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State and Oregon among others.
"I just went to Michigan last week," Scott said. "That was good. I had a lot of fun there. That's basically the main thing I did last week as far as recruiting."
In addition to Michigan, Scott has also visited another Big Ten school, Ohio State, in the past. Coming from Florida, Scott said the distance won't bother him.
"No, distance don't matter to me because I know my mom will be able to see me play," Scott said. "Most of these schools out-of-state -- some in-state -- after you're done with all with whatever you did and if you need a job, most of these schools have a big alumni, so they got a connection.
"After you're done playing in the league or whatever you do, you can pick up the phone and they could have a job for you."
Scott said after his visit to Florida for its spring game, the Gators would be near the top of his list, but now Scott said he doesn't have a list of favorites.
"I don't know," Scott said. "I really don't worry about all that stuff right now. I really don't have any standings on any team."
Florida signed five wide receiver in 2013, but the athletic Scott said that doesn't bother him.
"The year I come out they lose four wide receivers," he said. "So that's not really a big deal. My mom wants me to go there, but it's what it is, she wants me to go where I'll be happy."
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver hasn't said much about Florida State recently, but Scott said the Seminoles are still in the picture.
"Hell yeah, [FSU is still in contention]," Scott said emphatically. "Just that they throw the ball a lot and then just me having a connection with coach [Lawrence] Dawsey just makes it even better."
As for his future plans, Scott said he will likely visit Oregon over the summer, but might also see another in-state school in April.
"I haven't decided yet," Scott said. "I may go down to Miami last week of April, but I don't know yet."
