QB Jalan McClendon nets a new offer
By Corey Dowlar
The commitment of J.J. Cosentino (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) hasn't stopped Florida State from exploring further options at quarterback.
While on his visit to Tallahassee over the weekend, Jimbo Fisher brought Jalan McClendon (Charlotte, N.C./West Mecklenburg), a 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback, into his office and let him in on the news.
"He just said that they would like to offer me a scholarship," McClendon said. "And that they are going to start recruiting me hard."
And the fact that Cosentino is already in the fold hasn't deterred McClendon, either. He figures that no matter where he goes, he's going to have to perform.
"I am going to compete regardless," he said. "So I am not really worried about it."
McClendon got the tour of the campus, as expected, and took in a practice. He got to see how Fisher runs things on a day-to-day basis.
The tempo, a fast one at that, caught his attention.
"I like how they ran their practice a lot and their dorms," he said.
"It was a fast tempo. Everybody was moving. Everybody was doing something. It was what you'd see in a good team in practice. They coach them up pretty hard, I liked that."
McClendon was accompanied by his parents on the visit, something that is always important in recruiting. They also enjoyed their time in Florida's capital city.
Even though they don't have a huge say in his recruitment, McClendon said, it's still nice to get an endorsement.
"They liked it a lot," he said. "They were just surprised that it was that nice of a school.
"... They just want me to feel comfortable."
The offer does make an impact on McClendon. But then again, he's liked what FSU has to offer for a while now.
"Yes, sir," he said. "I have been liking Florida State."
