"It meant a lot," said Marshall. "I grew up as a kid liking Florida State. It was my dream school."
It wasn't a major surprise. Marshall had suspected that it was in the works for a while, especially after talking to his high school coach.
Still, he went to head coach Jimbo Fisher's office for further confirmation.
"It had already sunk in a little bit because my coach had already told me that they were going to offer me over the weekend," Marshall said. "It really wasn't a shock or anything.
"He [Fisher] said I was 'heck of a player.'"
The campus in Tallahassee is certainly familiar to Marshall. He's been there enough.
One thing that really stood out was the addition of new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.
"He is just a cool dude," Marshall said. "Out of the coaches that I have talked to, he probably jumps out first as one of the people I have built a good relationship with."
With the Florida State offer now in his possession, the Seminoles have moved to the top of Marshall's list. The only thing left to do before committing is to take a couple of visits, none of which have been set up yet.
Regardless, Marshall said his decision will be made before his senior season kicks off this fall.
"Probably by the spring or summer," he said. "But it could be by the time football season starts."
