Memphis LB racks up tackles, offers
By Kipp Adams
ATLANTA -- As a junior, Petera Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) had over 100 tackles, eight sacks, six passes broken up and two blocked punts. His double-digit list of offers reads like a who’s who of college football, with Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State being his most recent scholarship options.
The coveted linebacker gave his thoughts on the newest offers.
Ohio State: My father tells me a lot about "The" Ohio State and Urban Meyer is up there, so it does mean a lot to know they offered me. He is a huge fan of football and he knows the Buckeyes get it done every year.
Florida State: Florida State is a beautiful program and you cannot go wrong with the Seminoles. They were No. 2 overall in defense last year.
Georgia: Georgia is all about being a Dawg. They are athletes and pure monsters down there. They were No. 3 in the country to me so what else you want me to say about them.
Wilson was in Tuscaloosa, Ala., last weekend to take in the Tide’s junior day.
“I made a visit to Alabama last week and it was nice,” Wilson said. “I got to see the facilities and what life would be life in the day of a student-athlete there.”
Wilson says some have offered as an inside linebacker, some as an outside linebacker, and some have mentioned defensive end and even safety in certain formations. He said that although he has no leaders, programs such as USC, Ohio State and Florida State standout at the moment. He is by no means a lock to stay in Tennessee.
“As far as the in-state schools go, I am not really set on a program just because it is in a region because I want to weigh my options instead of basing my decision on location,” Wilson said.
The Bulldogs might get their chance to make a solid impression soon, as Wilson hopes to visit sometime in March. Wilson said he is contemplating waiting until signing day to eliminate schools and make his decision.
