Visits heat up for No. 1 Andrew Wiggins
By Dave Telep
The Andrew Wiggins visit tour will crank back up beginning Feb. 27 when the No. 1 senior prospect in the ESPN 100 is slated to visit Kentucky for its game against Mississippi State.
Wiggins visited Florida State, his parents' alma mater, earlier this winter and then tabled his remaining trips until his Huntington Prep (W.Va.) squad was further along in its season. Though he has five official visits, Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford intimated that Wiggins would be taking only four. Fulford also said the dates for trips to Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas were tentative until Wiggins' parents confirm their attendance.
For now, in successive weeks Wiggins plans to visit Kentucky, Kansas (March 4 vs. Texas Tech) and North Carolina (March 9 vs. Duke).
In conversations with Wiggins throughout the season, he has repeatedly harped on two themes: trust and a relationship with the head coach. Each head coach has been visible at numerous games this season.
What’s at stake? For Kentucky it would the greatest recruiting class of all time, bar none. North Carolina, meanwhile, has a fine crop headed to Chapel Hill next season but not a headlining superstar. Kansas likewise has been seeking star power for its class, while the Seminoles would like nothing more than to sign the highest-rated recruit in the history of its program.
