Watch List S adds Florida State offer

By Corey Dowlar

Safety Montae Nicholson (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) already has a bunch of offers.

That's not a shock. After all, he is on the ESPN Watch List.

But late last week, Florida State joined Bowling Green, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Texas Tech, Toledo and West Virginia to throw its hat in the ring. And Nicholson knows the Seminoles don't usually go to Pennsylvania unless they are serious.

"I was very excited that Florida State came all the way to Pennsylvania to offer," he said. "Coach Sunseri was great. He seems nice. I could definitely see myself playing down there.

"I know that one of his sons played for Pitt at quarterback. I know his other son plays down at Alabama. He coached with the Carolina Panthers. I know a little bit about him."

Nicholson has only been to the state of Florida on one occasion, and it wasn't to go see Tallahassee. Still, he plans to go at some point.

And when he gets there, Nicholson would like to see how Florida State's program works as a student-athlete.

"The only time I have been to Florida was when I was younger," he said. "I went to Disney. I haven't been to FSU or anything like that.

"I want to see the academics, the way that the coaches work with their players. The scheme, how they play down there, which I am sure that won't be an issue. Just the main things."

Learning about Florida State is a priority, Nicholson said. Still stressing the academic side, the support staff in place at any school is going to make a major difference.

"I will definitely have to do some research on the school, their academic support, you know, things like that," he said.
