FSU moving quickly on in-state DE
By Corey Dowlar
After Davin Bellamy (Chamblee, Ga./Chamblee) decommitted from Florida State, the Seminoles needed to find another defensive end to replace him in this recruiting class.
It seems they have found their target. Davarez Bryant (New Smyrna Beach, Fla./New Smyrna Beach), a 6-foot-4, 245-pound prospect, was offered earlier this week and immediately set up an official visit to Tallahassee this weekend.
"That was pretty exciting," said Bryant. "That was really exciting for them to come.
"It was kind of like a big question mark over my head, like, 'Florida State offered?' so it was crazy."
Since the end of the college football season, only Iowa State has gotten an official visit from Bryant. Purdue got one in the fall, but have since fallen out of the running.
Just two schools remain in the picture.
"Yeah, they are at the top of my list," Bryant said of FSU. "My top two is Iowa State and Florida State. Those two, those are the ones that I am going to make my decision out of."
There is still a lot to learn about the Seminoles, though. He knows of their football exploits, but the academics are something different altogether.
"I don't know a whole lot about Florida State," said Bryant. "I know they have a great team and a great program, but I don't know much about the academics. That is what my visit will mainly be about, finding out about that stuff."
Regardless of the quality of his weekend visit, Bryant won't be making his decision public until signing day. He wants to have the ceremony at his high school with his friends and family around him.
"I am going to wait until signing day no matter what," he said. "I'll probably do that in the auditorium in the morning on Wednesday."
Bryant is rated a three-star recruit by ESPN.
