Na'Ty Rodgers makes his decision

By Dave Hooker

Na'Ty Rodgers had the feeling he had been waiting for. He knew it was time for him to commit.

The four-star offensive tackle did so after his official visit to South Carolina, choosing the Gamecocks over a host of other schools. He also took official visits to Maryland, Washington and Oklahoma.

"I thought it was time," the 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect from Pomfret (Md.) McDonough said. "I had the feeling that it was time to do it."

Rodgers was scheduled to take an official visit to Florida State on Jan. 25. He said that won't happen.

Rodgers had visited South Carolina before. He struggled to pick specific favorites about his official visit there. He liked it all.

"Really everything," he said. "I got to meet a lot more people and a lot more players and sit down with the coaches for more than just an hour or two."

Rodgers said he met several players. One in particular, All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, will become a practice sparring partner soon. Rodgers welcomes the challenge.

"I know it's only going to get me better," he said. "I'm really looking forward to it."

Once he gets on the field, Rodgers will face a challenge every week. Playing in the SEC was a major factor in his decision.

"That's all you really want it to go against the best guys and compete int the best conference every week," said Rodgers, who also had SEC scholarship offers from Florida and Tennessee. "Every single week I'm playing, I'm getting better. There are no easy weeks in the SEC."
