Seminoles offer junior linebacker

By Corey Dowlar

Florida State offered one of the top junior prospects in the state for the Class of 2014 in T.J. Harrell (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Catholic) on Tuesday. Head coach Jimbo Fisher and wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey were the bearers of good news for the 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker.

So what did Harrell think about the offer?

"It was great," he said. "I know that Jimbo Fisher and Lawrence Dawsey were by today. It was really exciting."

The Seminoles join in-state schools Florida, FAU, FIU, UCF and UCF that have already offered Harrell. From his point of view, being close to home is a bonus.

"Florida State offer is really significant for me because I have a lot of family that goes there," he said. "I have been waiting for them. It is another in-state school. There is nothing like home and I can go visit whenever I want to. It is definitely big that it is in the state."

Coach Dawsey, the Seminoles area recruiter for Greater Tampa Bay, will likely oversee the recruitment of Harrell. His ties to the area will be important even if his relationship with Harrell is just beginning.

"Not personally, but I know that he comes to the school, but it is a stop-and-go type thing," Harrell said. "I haven't really talked to him until recently. He used to coach here, so I have heard a lot about him. He seems like a pretty good guy."

One apparent priority of the offer and the visit was to get Harrell on campus as soon as possible. The Seminoles won't have to wait very long.

"We talked about me coming up to the basketball game on Feb. 2, so I will go up for that," he said.

Harrell also claims offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia, Houston, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Purdue, South Alabama, Texas Tech and UCLA.

He has no favorites at this time, but would like to either announce his decision on signing day or at an all-star game.
