Holmes would like to hear from new staff

By Corey Dowlar

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Corey Holmes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) had a relatively quiet holiday season in terms of recruiting.

With the dead period in swing, his contact with college coaches was limited. Miami (Fla), though, seems to have begun to show some effort in getting the 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver on campus.

"I think it was just this week, I heard from Miami and they invited me to a thing that they have down in Coral Gables," he said. "So far, that is the only the school to hit me up."

Aside from the Hurricanes, there are no other trips scheduled for the next two months. But if given the opportunity, there would be a few places that Holmes would like to visit.

"I don't have any visits planned right now, but I am considering going to Miami's Junior Day, but I don't know yet," Holmes said. "I have to check out what my parents want to do.

"I would like to see Clemson, that is one school I'd like to see. I'd like to go to Rutgers, some that I haven't been able to see."

Florida State -- one of the teams to have already offered Holmes along with Florida, Houston, Michigan, Notre Dame, Rutgers, UCF, USF, Syracuse and Wisconsin -- has had a coaching staff in flux. Eddie Gran, the running backs coach and area recruiter for prospects such as Holmes down in South Florida, has moved on to be the offensive coordinator at Cincinnati.

Until the Seminoles make a new hire, or change up their zones, their contact with Holmes may be nonexistent.

"Gran was recruiting me," he said. "I haven't heard from them since Coach Gran has left, but I was hoping to hear from them soon."
