LB Delvin Purifoy joins 2014 haul
By Corey Dowlar
Florida State picked up its seventh commitment towards the Class of 2014 when Delvin Purifoy (Pensacola, Fla./Catholic) chose the Seminoles on Thursday.
Purifoy, who had offers from South Alabama, South Florida and Tennessee, is an ESPN Watch List member as one of the top inside linebackers for the junior class.
"I think overall, it is very close to home and it is a school he has been a fan of for most of his life," Catholic coach Greg Seibert said. "Watching him play over the last couple of years, and looking at the trajectory of where Coach [Jimbo] Fisher has the program headed, it seemed like a place that fit his skill set. He has great size, he runs really well, and that is one of the foundational parts of what Coach Fisher does with that defense. He puts kids on the field that run. His family was completely supportive and it is where he wants to be."
Seibert, who sees Purifoy in practice on a daily basis, has no concerns as to whether the Seminoles can get a high level of play out of their new commitment. Citing the success of the top defenses in college football, according to his coach, Purifoy has what is required to play at a school like Florida State.
"He has a very good understanding of the game," Seibert said . "He is extremely fast and extremely physical at the point of attack. If you watched, especially ACC or SEC football, you know over the last couple of years, that is what really rises to the top. You're fast, you're physical, those are the ones that are rising to the top and he fits that bill."
The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Purifoy was unable to comment beyond a text message because Catholic High School returned to class.
He is the Seminoles' third defensive commitment and the first at the linebacker position for the Class of 2014.
