Michigan intrigues ESPN 150 RB

SAN ANTONIO - - Six teams are still in the running for four-star running back Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) but his face is overcome by a certain glow when he speaks about one in particular.

That school is Michigan.
“That program, period,” Green said. “Just the history behind the program and their traditions. [Running backs] Coach [Fred] Jackson, Coach [Brady] Hoke is a great coach. He’s the best coach I’ve met so far.”
Green is also intrigued by the possibility of early playing time should he choose the Wolverines.
“I see myself, if I go to Michigan, starting right away,” he said. “They are definitely high on my list.”
Green, the No. 41 player overall in the ESPN 150, is the No. 5 running back in the nation.
He also listed Auburn, Tennessee, Miami, Florida State and, to a lesser degree USC, as the other schools in the mix.
Green, who checks in at a sturdy 6-foot and 220 pounds, has already taken official visits to Tennessee (Sept. 14), Michigan (Oct. 20) and Auburn (Nov. 9). He said, not surprisingly, that his visit to Ann Arbor stood out above the rest.
Something that is playing in Michigan’s favor right now are the coaching changes that took place at Auburn and Tennessee. They’ve really set his recruitment back.
“It threw a big [wrench] in to my plans,” Green said. “It’s kind of like I am starting all over again with those schools all over. Tennessee has the edge over Auburn because my position coach [Jay Graham] stayed there. I’ve known him for about two years. I am just trying to build my relationship with Auburn and Tennessee all over.”
Green does have two official visits left and plans to take both of them. He’s just not letting in on what schools those could be.
“I don’t have a date set yet but I plan on taking them real soon, maybe right after the game,” he said. “But I don’t know what schools they will be. Florida State just offered so I will try to take an unofficial out there some time soon.”
