Lyons gets a visit from Dawsey
By Corey Dowlar
Four-star linebacker Tyrell Lyons (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast), a Florida State commitment for nearly a year, is approaching the home stretch.
In less than two months, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect will sign his letter of intent and fax it in to Florida State. But for now, all he can do is wait -- and entertain his future coaches.
Before the dead period begins, the Seminoles assistants are hitting the recruiting trail hard. Just last week, wide receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey dropped in on Lyons to see how things were.
"It is a pleasure to see a coach come check on things and see how I am doing," Lyons said. "I see how he is doing. We just make sure we are on the same page."
Dawsey and Lyons have come a long way since first meeting. With each meeting, their relationship improves.
Lyons understands there are probably more pressing matters in recruiting than him at this point. He's already firmly committed and ready to go to FSU.
The fact that the coaches continue to pursue him means a lot.
"I think our relationship is getting better every time we see each other," Lyons said. "It has come a long way. He is very straightforward and that is what I like about him. So every time we see each other, it gets stronger.
"It feels good that they are checking in on me, making sure my grades are good and everything else like that."
Up next on Lyons' agenda is his lone official visit. He will be part of a fairly large visit weekend in Tallahassee, Fla., that begins Jan. 11.
The thing Lyons relishes the most is the opportunity to interact with coaches and players -- some of which he knows better than others.
"Hanging out with the coaches mainly," he said. I really just want to talk to some of the teammates like Reggie Northrup and some of the other players."
