Ryan Switzer says he's firm on pledge

By Dave Hooker

Ryan Switzer isn't considering other options. That's good news for North Carolina.

"Kentucky and Florida State were supposed to come see me but I told them no," the four-star receiver from Charleston (W.V.) George Washington said on Friday.

Switzer has been committed to North Carolina since March. He cited family that lived nearby as one of the factors in his decision. Then, news of potential NCAA violations began to surface.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect considered other options last fall. He even contemplated an official visit to Florida State.

Coaches in Tallahassee never gave up on Switzer despite his commitment. They saw a golden opportunity when North Carolina ran into off-field issues and ramped up their recruitment of the speedy prospect. Florida State coaches had reason to be optimistic. Switzer had long said the Seminoles were the leader for his services before North Carolina rose to the top.

After weeks of considering that official visit to Florida State, Switzer finally decided against it. He won't take any other official visits before signing with North Carolina in February.

"We'll be in the ACC championship game for years to come," Switzer said.
