FSU commit Adrian Baker mulling options
By Bob Przybylo
ESPN 300 athlete Adrian Baker (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna) knew something was up. Clemson assistant coaches Brent Venables and Charlie Harbison were visiting Baker on Tuesday when Baker’s phone started to blow up.
Four-star prospect Adrian Baker will visit Clemson this weekend and still wants to visit Oklahoma.
Baker, a Florida State commit who is 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds, said he is not sure what this is going to mean for his recruitment moving forward. He said he is waiting for his grandmother to come home Tuesday for them to discuss things as a family.
One person he is going to call is Oklahoma defensive backs coach Mike Stoops.
“I’ve always wanted to visit OU," Baker said. "We’ll see how that conversation goes and move from there."
Baker, ranked No. 198 in the ESPN 300, was originally supposed to take an official visit to OU last month for the Sooners’ showdown with Notre Dame.
But the day before his trip, he was notified by Mike Stoops that it was canceled. Stoops told Baker he would not recruit Baker as long as Baker was an FSU commit recruited by his brother, Mark.
“I respected that,” Baker said. “Coach [Mike] Stoops is committed to his brother. How can you not respect that?”
Baker said if it was some other schools, he would have been turned off by that truth. However, he said because it’s coming from such a prestigious school as OU, he is always going to listen to what Mike Stoops has to say.
“Whenever Mike Stoops wants me in Norman, I’ll be there,” Baker said. “We’ve always had great conversations, and I’m interested to see how tonight’s talk is going to go.”
Baker won’t visit OU this weekend or next weekend. The Sooners are on the road this weekend, and he has already set up an official visit to Clemson for next weekend.
“It really is crazy right now,” Baker said. “I’m trying to figure it all out. When I know, I’ll let everybody else know.”
