Franklin hoping to make weekend visit

By Corey Dowlar

If all the logistics work out, Florida State commitment John Franklin (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation) will be on an official visit this weekend.

But those plans aren't exactly firmly in place yet. If they do fall through, his trip will be delayed by a month or so.

"We are waiting to see if there is an open hotel room," Franklin said. "If there isn't one, I will probably just wait until January or December.

"If we go up for this week, it will be your official."

Franklin himself is no stranger to the Seminoles' campus. He's been there for unofficial visits and camps.

His parents, by contrast, haven't experienced any of it.

"I have been there five times, so I am more excited for my parents to see it than I am," he said. "I want them to see how I felt after going there. That is really the big thing. We have always been to Tallahassee because I have cousins that go to FAMU, but they haven't ever seen the campus."

Academics are always important to any recruit's family. In Franklin's household, this holds true a little extra.

"My mom is in the school system, so she is probably going to want to see how all the academic support system is with the team," Franklin said. "I want them to see how I felt, you know, right at home with the college life or whatever. Just the environment, the city itself, the coaches and the players are one big family."

His parents have had some conversations with running backs coach and primary recruiter Eddie Gran. But getting to know the rest of the staff, including head coach Jimbo Fisher, would be nice, too.

Once on the visit, they'll have the opportunity to do that.

"They have talked to Coach Gran a couple of times," Franklin said. "And Coach Fisher is supposed to be coming down in a couple of weeks for an in-home visit."

Although disappointed that his high school career has come to an end, Franklin said he was proud of the way he and some of the other seniors displayed leadership this season.

Franklin became the Seminoles 17th commitment on Nov. 1.
