ALLEN, Texas -- It has been a good couple of weeks for Class of 2015 tight end Jordan Davis (Houston/Clear Lake).
Davis, who is 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, committed to Florida State in March. Through the last two weeks he has been offered by Oklahoma and Texas. And after his performance at the Nike Football Training Combine it’s easy to see why.
Davis was among the best tight ends at the camp and is positioning himself as one to watch at the spot for the next two years. But before he impressed in Allen, he made a trip to Norman, Okla., to see OU for the first time.
“I came down Friday and went to practice,” Davis said. “Then on Saturday morning took a tour of the school and the campus. It was a great trip.”
Davis was one of two top OU tight end targets on hand last weekend, as ESPN Watch List target Koda Martin (Manvel, Texas/Manvel) made yet another trip to campus.
What stood out to Davis was something that has stood out to most tight ends who have visited in the last year. OU needs tight ends. Not in the future. Now.
“They really need a tight end,” Davis said. “I was told that but seeing it in person makes it more real. That would be real good for me with the potential to come in and play early. They were also focused a lot on education.”
Davis has been recruited by OU linebackers coach Tim Kish. The weekend allowed Davis to connect with first-year tight ends coach Jay Boulware. Davis spent a lot of time with OU’s offensive coaches but said he spent the majority of his trip with Boulware.
He has seen OU and Texas in the last couple of weeks. It has given him a lot to think about but not enough to make him back down from the Seminoles.
“I’m not second-guessing anything, but this is opening my eyes up more,” Davis said. “Florida State is definitely my No. 1 school.”
Davis is not done with his spring tour. He said he will be at Texas A&M’s spring game this weekend.
