With just a few short months left until national signing day, Florida and Florida State, as always, have two of the best recruiting classes in the country. 2014 will be no different. Here's a look at some of the top prospects Florida and Florida State will battle for next year.
DE Andrew Williams (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing): The ESPN Watch List defensive end visited Florida over the summer and came away impressed with the Gators. Williams also visited FSU for its game against the Gators. Other schools will be heavily involved in Williams' recruitment, but these two schools are sure to be near his top schools throughout.
DE Denzel Ware (Crestview, Fla./Crestview): Ware has been committed to FSU since September, but the Gators continue to pursue the talented defensive end. Ware took an unofficial visit to Florida for a game this year and came away impressed. He remains firmly committed to FSU, but Florida is still lingering.
WR Johnnie Dixon (Palm Beach, Fla./Dwyer): The ESPN Watch List wide receiver has offers from Florida and Florida State and camped at both places this summer. Dixon is friends with two former high school teammates now at UF -- safety Matt Elam and quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He's also friends and former teammates with FSU tight end Nick O'Leary.
OL Garrett Brumfield (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory): Brumfield camped at Florida and FSU this summer and earned offers at both schools. Brumfield made a return trip to Florida for its game against LSU. Though he's not from the state of Florida, this could be a Florida/FSU/LSU battle in the end.
DB Duke Dawson (Cross City, Fla./Dixie Co.): The Watch List athlete earned offers from Florida and FSU after camping at both schools this summer. Dawson grew up an FSU fan, but the 5-foot-11, 185-pound DB has taken a liking to Florida defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and head coach Will Muschamp. Don't be surprised to see Dawson make his college choice between FSU and Florida in the near future.
DT Travonte Valentine (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside): The Watch List defensive tackle originally committed to Louisville before decommitting and eventually switching his pledge to Florida. Though Valentine seems solid in his commitment to the Gators, at one point he had FSU as his leader. The Seminoles will continue to pursue the talented lineman.
