NoleNation takes a look at five defensive end targets who have been identified early for the class of 2014.
Denzel Ware: Already committed to Florida State, Ware is the first target at the position that can be penciled in to the 2014 recruiting class. The Seminoles did well to get in the door early and secure a verbal from a prospect who is being heavily recruited from powerhouses such as Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Ohio State, Texas and Southern Cal. The Gators have begun to start pushing for Ware, but at this time he is still firm to Florida State.
Chad Thomas: If at all possible, Florida State would love to have an established pipeline into Booker T. Washington High School beginning with 2013 outside linebacker Matthew Thomas. Chad Thomas, a junior defensive end, is not too far behind. He's already received offers from the Seminoles, LSU, Miami, Mississippi and Texas A&M with plenty of other SEC schools looming. He figures to be a typical Florida State-Miami battle.
Lorenzo Carter: Florida State would like to make it two classes in a row to land a tall, rangy defensive end from Georgia. In 2013, it figures to be Davin Bellamy. In '14, Lorenzo Carter out of Norcross is firmly on the radar. Carter has already been offered by Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Penn State, Syracuse, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Carter has already visited Florida State once this season for the Clemson game, and could potentially visit again in November for the Florida game.
Andrew Williams: Out of McDonough, Ga., Williams is going to be one of the top-ranked defensive ends for 2014. Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, Southern Cal and Virginia Tech have all already offered. Williams checks in at 6-foot-4 and 231 pounds. His 2013 teammate, Isaac Rochell, is already committed to the Fighting Irish. Williams is on the ESPN Watch List.
Da'Shawn Hand: A possible candidate as the top player in the country in the class, Hand's offer list is as impressive as it gets for a junior. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Stanford, Virginia and Virginia Tech have all offered, among others. The Seminoles do have a commitment out of Virginia for the Class of 2013 in E.J. Levenberry, but do not usually frequent the state. Hand is a special prospect, though, and Florida State would love to make an exception for him.
