DE D'Angelo Reynolds grows into game

7/19/2012

It comes as a shock to most to learn that D'Angelo Reynolds (Miami, Fla./Miami Northwestern) could stand at 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds not having played a snap of competitive football before.

That's for good reason, though, because Reynolds displays the strength and athleticism most college coaches drool over.

And while there is some understandable skepticism over this sizable prospect because there is literally no game film available on him, Reynolds does claim at least nine offers.

"Right now, I have Florida State, Florida, [Miami, Fla.], Ohio State, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Tulane," he listed.

Reynolds, attending Jimbo Fisher Camp, couldn't have imagined his stock rising as rapidly as it has during the last few months. He's had to lean on parents, peers and professionals gleaning every piece of advice he can on his quest to earn a college scholarship to play a brand new sport.

"It has been crazy," he began. "I just thank God and thank the people around me for keeping me positive and keeping me grounded through the process.

"My mom and the people who have made it, the people in college and the pros, I actually listen and take their advice. They are there and they have been through it. It is really an eye opener. It is really a help."

A well-traveled young man of late, Reynolds has made his share of trips this summer. He listed locations including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Clemson, Ohio State and Tulane.

The undecided defensive end talent is keeping his decision date a secret, but might have dropped a hint on Wednesday night that it could be sooner rather than later.

"That's a secret," he said. "I don't really know yet … Soon. Really soon."

When it comes to what he's looking for, Reynolds does have a clear idea. And he's not afraid to share that part of it.

"A graduation rate and the production of players on and off the field," he said.
