Offers to wide receivers from Florida State for the class of 2014 have seemingly been flying off the shelves this week.
Corey Holmes (Ft. Lauderdale, St. Thomas Aquinas) is now the latest. On Wednesday, he said, Seminoles running backs coach Eddie Gran delivered the good news after Holmes placed a phone call to him.
"It was awesome," said the 6-foot-1, 172-pound target. "I found out when I called the Florida State coach yesterday. We were talking and it was during the conversation that he told me that I was being offered by FSU. At the time, I was just so excited. It had finally come, an offer from FSU.
"It was very exciting for me. I wouldn't say it has changed anything, but I would say that, yeah, it was very special to me to get an offer from them."
Florida State has had some good fortunes of late at St. Thomas Aquinas. Bobby Hart, Austin Barron and freshman breakout wide receiver Rashad Greene all served major roles for the Seminoles in 2011 just a year out of high school.
Preseason All-ACC safety Lamarcus Joyner also happens to hail from the Ft. Lauderdale-based school.
Holmes took notice.
"I was pretty cool with those recruits when they were down here at St. Thomas and everything," he said. "I find it cool that most of them went up there and started. I wouldn't say it is affecting me when it comes to making a decision on a college."
Taking his recruitment in stride, the rising junior isn't rushing to name leaders or favorites. Instead, Holmes is going to wait until after this fall to really go head first into the process.
"Right now, I am just really seeing what comes my way," he said. "I am not planning on making a decision any time soon at all. I want to get through my junior year before I really start narrowing down schools or anything like that."
That doesn't mean he won't be looking to take a couple of trips in the fall, though. One early ACC matchup in particular has his attention.
"I really want to go to the Florida State-Clemson game," Holmes said. "I actually talked to the coach yesterday about coming up for that game. And Notre Dame, those are two teams that I want to see."
