Florida State trolls Marco Rubio after FSU whips Florida

It seems as if Marco Rubio is avoiding his Twitter mentions, which might not be a bad idea considering the ugly loss Saturday his alma mater Florida suffered at the hands of rival Florida State -- the university he jokingly ridiculed two months ago.

The Seminoles’ football Twitter account is interested in hearing from the Republican presidential candidate and Florida senator, however, throwing some shade and trolling the Gator grad in the process.

Florida State asked for Rubio’s thoughts following the Seminoles’ 27-2 rout of Florida in The Swamp on the final weekend of the regular season. The loss will likely keep the Gators out of the College Football Playoff and potentially a New Year’s Six bowl game completely.

Rubio has not tweeted since a pregame “Go Gators” on Saturday.

In September, Rubio was on an Iowa radio station when he mocked the value of a Florida State education. Rubio originally went to Tarkio College in Missouri on a football scholarship but earned a graduate degree from Florida.

He also went to law school at Miami, and he said he roots for the Gators and then the Hurricanes when Miami plays Florida State.

“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State,” Rubio said. “I think there has to be a school where people that can’t get into Florida can go to college. And that’s why we have Florida State.”

A day after Rubio’s comment, Florida State president John Thrasher returned serve.

"He's a nice kid," Thrasher told the Tallahassee Democrat. "I'm sure he's frustrated by his low standing in the polls, which I believe could be a reflection of where he got his education."
