Jeff Driskel's shoulder injury is minor

By michaeldirocco

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It appears that Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel might not have suffered as severe an injury, as reports indicated earlier Tuesday.

Florida released a statement that said Driskel was at practice at Tuesday and would participate in practice on Wednesday.

"Jeff was at practice today and will be taking reps at practice Wednesday," the statement said.

Jeff Driskel's father, Jerry, told GatorNation's Derek Tyson that his son "has a sore shoulder" and should be back at practice in a day or two.

There were unconfirmed reports on Twitter earlier Tuesday that Driskel had suffered a significant injury to his left (non-throwing shoulder) -- some of which specifically mentioned a broken shoulder -- but the statements from UF and Driskel refuted those reports. Florida coach Will Muschamp isn't scheduled to address the media again until Friday.

Driskel has been locked in a battle with fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett for the starting spot. Muschamp said Monday that he took the red non-contact jerseys off the quarterbacks on Sunday and allowed them to get hit.

"We went to a tempo yesterday [Sunday] where we thud a little bit on them, made them a little live," Muschamp said. "Didn't take them to the ground, but I think it's important for them to feel the presence of the pocket."
