New school in mix for ESPN 300 Adams
By Damon Sayles
ESPN 300 safety Jamal Adams’ top five is now a top six.
Late Tuesday evening Adams (Lewisville, Texas/Hebron) said Florida, Texas A&M, Texas, Ole Miss and Ohio State are still very high on his list of schools, but LSU is now in the mix as well. Adams was offered by LSU back in April, minutes after he competed at the Nike Football Training Camp in Allen, Texas, and earned a golden ticket to The Opening.
“[LSU’s] always been a dream kind of school for me,” Adams said. “A lot of great DBs have come through.”
At 6-foot and 204 pounds, Adams is being recruited to LSU by defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and tight ends coach Steve Ensminger. Adams still has two official visits remaining -- he’s visited Texas A&M, Florida and Ole Miss -- and when asked about a potential visit to Baton Rouge, La., he said an official could be possible. Adams was scheduled to take his fourth official visit to Ohio State this past weekend, but he was unable to attend because of a prior family engagement.
Adams said even though LSU didn’t make his original top-five list, the Tigers have always been a school to watch. One of his close peers is ESPN 300 defensive back Edward Paris Jr. (Arlington, Texas/Timberview), who committed to LSU on Feb. 25. Paris has been recruiting Adams since the spring.
And if Adams chooses to join Paris in the LSU secondary?
“Lockdown, man,” Adams said.
A self-proclaimed “SEC kind of guy,” Adams jumped two spots from No. 25 to No. 23 in the latest ESPN 300. He is the No. 3 safety in the country and also the No. 3 player in the state of Texas. Four of Adams’ six favorite schools are in the SEC, but he reiterated that Texas and Ohio State are very much in the race.
