ESPN 300 Adams discusses TAMU visit

By Damon Sayles

As much of a traveler as ESPN 300 safety Jamal Adams (Lewisville, Texas/Hebron) has become, Saturday was his first Texas A&M game experience at Kyle Field.

The atmosphere of 87,000-plus fans watching the Aggies and Alabama battle like heavyweight prizefighters was enough for him to want to make another trip to College Station, Texas, soon. Adams took the first of his five official visits this weekend and said he had a blast taking in the Texas A&M environment.

“It was great for my first time seeing how live 12th Man gets,” said Adams, the nation’s No. 3 safety and No. 25 overall player in the ESPN 300.

An Under Armour All-American, Adams also gave Aggie fans hope as he prepares to make his announcement, which he is tentatively scheduling for November. Adams entered the weekend with a top five of Texas A&M, Florida, Texas, Ohio State and Ole Miss.

“It’s a win-win situation with A&M and Florida,” he said. “[but I am] still looking at Ole Miss.”

Adams said Ohio State is also still very much alive in the race. He is excited about his upcoming official visit to Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 26, the weekend after he visits Ole Miss.

One school that may be Adams’ biggest question mark is Texas. The Longhorns are struggling on defense after bad losses to BYU and Ole Miss, and the defensive coordinator change from Manny Diaz to Greg Robinson has made Adams wonder if any other coaching changes will take place within the program.

“Not knowing if coaches will be there ...” said Adams, who has noted on multiple occasions that his winning school will have a stable coaching staff with a winning reputation.

Adams, who has also mentioned on multiple occasions that he sees himself playing in the SEC, said he likes what Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin is doing. Official visit No. 2, however, is his new focus in recruiting. Adams will trek to Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday for an official visit to see the Gators host Tennessee.
