2015 WR Campbell plans summer visits
By Derek Tyson
BRADENTON, Fla.-- Despite only being a 2015 prospect, wide receiver George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) was one of the top performers at the IMG 7v7 National Championships over the weekend.
The 6-foot-4, 184-pound athlete has several big-time offers and is looking to visit several schools this summer.
Campbell's high school teammate Mason Cole is committed to Michigan, and Campbell and wide receiver Artavis Scott are both attempting to set up a visit to Michigan for their annual barbecue in July.
"Yeah, I'm not sure yet," said Campbell who was sporting Michigan gloves during the 7-on-7 event. "I have to see what's up with Mason [Cole] and plan it out from there, but we want to. We'll just see if it works out."
Friday Night Lights at Florida is another trip Campbell is considering. He said he is planning to attend Florida's one-night camp at the end of July.
"That's the plan right now," he said. "After I leave from The Opening, I'll see what camps we want to hit up and that will probably be one of the big ones. I'm going to sit down with Tay [Artavis Scott] and coach and plan that out. We are going to try to go together."
Campbell has visited Clemson before and is hoping to get back soon.
"I definitely hope to go back," Campbell said. "It's a great campus and a great atmosphere. It's basically family."
Campbell's Team Tampa 7-on-7 coach, Woodrow Grady, has a son, Josh Grady, who plays wide receiver for Vanderbilt. Campbell said he is working on a plan to visit Vanderbilt.
"I plan on getting up there on July 17 with coach Grady," he said. "Coach Franklin teaches family also and just the atmosphere around there. It's a great school academically, too."
Vanderbilt was the first school to offer a scholarship to Campbell, and he said the offer was a special one.
"It does mean a lot, because at the time I was only a freshman," he said. "If they had faith in me as a freshman, they still have faith in me now."
Campbell said he has no time frame on when he would like to make a decision.
