Chiozza big pick up for the Gators
By Reggie Rankin
Class of 2014 point guard Chris Chiozza (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) has committed to the Florida Gators, and the style of play is not only a good fit but Chiozza will rapidly improve under the tutelage of another point guard -- Florida coach Billy Donovan.
Chiozza will provide the Gators with the ability to create plays on both ends of the floor. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound pure point guard has great speed and quickness. He is a terrific passer that has an excellent pull-up jumper that he can stop and pop on a dime when he is not dropping off a pass. Chiozza has excellent court vision and is a savvy and crafty finisher for his size that posses terrific touch and body control in and around the lane. Chiozza is simply a playmaker. He also can apply intense ball pressure on the defensive end of the floor.
The Gators fast break has added some serious RPMs with the addition of Chiozza. Chiozza will cause opponents serious problems in the halfcourt when he attacks the multiple random on-ball screens. He will create help and find the open man as he attacks with his head and eyes up, probing the defense. He will be excellent when the play breaks down and at end-of-clock situations as well. Chiozza will drive, draw and kick, drop off and kick out.
The Gators have their point guard of the future on board in Chiozza.
