Florida signee Q&A: Jordan Sherit

By Derek Tyson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- GatorNation wants you to get to know Florida’s incoming freshmen.

How are they preparing for their first college season? What are their goals for 2013?

To find that out, we’re starting a series of Q&As, beginning with defensive end Jordan Sherit (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough), who is coming off an ACL tear suffered during his senior season.

GatorNation: What’s your current height and weight, what number will you wear, and who will you room with next season?

Sherit: 6-5, 248, No. 17, and I'll be rooming with Vernon Hargreaves III.

GN: What are you doing for offseason conditioning drills?

Jordan Sherit
Pass-rushing DE Jordan Sherit expects to be ready to go full speed when camp starts this summer.
Sherit: I've been training at a place called Impact Fitness in Tampa. Vernon and I train there -- Matt Jones trained there last year with Josh Grady. Leon [McQuay III] trained there, too. They've definitely done a great job with Vernon and I.  I'm still in the process of getting back my speed. I've just been trying to put on muscle, and they've done a great job with it. I'm doing some speed training, but because of my rehab, it's a little altered.

GN: Will you be completely healthy by the time you enroll in June?

Sherit: I don't know about by the time I enroll. But I think the fact that I'm already in cleats and close to running full speed again that I should be good by camp.

GN: What are your expectations as a freshman?

Sherit: Right now, not knowing if I'll be 100-percent ready by the camp start, it's hard to say. I just want to help the team any way I can. Whether it be in practice lining up and making the guy across from me better, or whatever it is. If I'm at that level where I can come in the game on third down and whatever, I'll help the team however I can. Me and coach [Will] Muschamp have talked about it. I don't know about redshirting yet, because I'm not sure exactly where I'm at. Coach Muschamp always told me that he recruited me to be a pass rusher, and the plan is for me to come in and play. That's how I'm taking it and hopefully everything goes to plan.

GN: What are you looking forward to the most?

Sherit: Food being readily available to me. School's out -- I just have exams, so I'm kind of home by myself a lot and have to cook for myself. So having cafeterias and food all around me is exciting. Seriously though, having this injury, I'm just excited to get back out there and playing football again. It starts in 40 days or something like that -- I'm excited. I've been dreaming about playing college football for as long as I can remember.

GN: Tell Florida fans something about you that they wouldn't know.

Sherit: One thing they probably wouldn't know is that I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to school. I have a 6.1 GPA. I'll probably major in business, or business finance or something like that.
