T.J. Harrell to lean on visits
By Corey Dowlar
T.J. Harrell (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Catholic) is going to be leaning heavily on visits.
The 6-foot, 197-pound two-way athlete has a bunch of offers, but to distinguish them, he's going to have to see what the school is like behind the brochures he gets in the mail.
"I am going to talk it out with my friends, coaches and family and take a few visits with my teammates to a couple of schools and narrow it down that way," he said.
"I plan to check out Michigan State, Louisville, UCF, FSU, Miami -- all the Florida schools basically -- Vanderbilt, Kentucky and West Virginia."
All of the big in-state schools have shown interest in Harrell. But not all of them are on the same page as to where he will play.
Also a running back, Harrell's ability to play there could be an appeal.
"FSU is a pretty good program that is recruiting me as a running back," said Harrell. "That is a program that produces good running backs. They got James Wilder Jr. They just got Ryan Green, and so I am pretty sure they would be a good school to go to as a running back. Florida wants me as a defensive athlete. They like me as a guy that can play strong safety but also slide down and play outside 'backer in the nickel. Miami wants me strictly as a strong safety. FIU wants me as a safety, and FAU wants me as a receiver."
But just because he's from Florida doesn't mean he's going to stay there. Harrell says he's got a strong desire to get out and see what other opportunities are out there.
"I want to get outside of Florida to see some new schools and compare them to what the ones in Florida have to offer," Harrell said. "I am looking forward to seeing Michigan State because I have a cousin that played cornerback there named Jeremy Ware that got drafted by the Oakland Raiders. I also want to check out Louisville, West Virginia and Vanderbilt."
