LB Yeargin III talks early favorites
By Derek Tyson
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. -- Linebacker Richard Yeargin III (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./University School) recently picked up two offers from in-state schools Florida and Florida State. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound outside linebacker also holds offers from schools such as Tennessee, UCLA and Georgia Tech.
Yeargin, who also thinks a Notre Dame offer is coming soon, said of his 13 offers, five schools are standing out.
"Florida, Florida State, Clemson, UCLA and Tennessee are standing out right now," Yeargin said at the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 Southeast regional tournament. "Florida, it’s a good school, good football tradition, good education, and I feel as though I can go there and be an impact player immediately.
"UCLA offers more opportunities outside of Florida, and It’s just different. Tennessee, I guess you could say, they put a lot of players in the NFL and that kind of attracts me."
Yeargin said there are specific factors he is looking for in each school.
"When I choose a program first of all I’m looking at education, then football tradition, and then stability," he said. "Like how good is the program, what are they known for and what can they do for me?"
Yeargin has no plans to visit schools for any upcoming junior days, but he said he will visit Florida for its spring game in April.
He said he will likely make his college announcement on signing day.
