ESPN 300 Ryan Timmons sets final visit
By Dave Hooker
Ohio State might have waited too long to offer Ryan Timmons.
With just one official visit remaining, the ESPN 300 prospect said he will take his final trip to Florida on Feb. 1. The four-star athlete from Franfort (Ky.) Franklin County has long been recruited by the Buckeyes, but recruiters from the school just offered him a scholarship on Tuesday.
Florida, led by receivers coach Joker Phillips, offered Timmons a scholarship last Sunday. Phillips recruited Timmons when he was the head coach at Kentucky last season.
Timmons expressed strong interest in Ohio State throughout the recruiting process, even visiting the school on numerous occasions. Therefore, he's familiar with Columbus but has long said he wouldn't sign with a school that his mother hasn't seen personally. That could be tough with national signing day looming and no more official visits left to take.
It's unclear if Timmons and his mother will be able to visit Columbus before national signing day. What is clear is that the Buckeyes have some strong new competition from Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer's former program.
Timmons has taken official visits to Arkansas, Purdue, Illinois and Kentucky. He told ESPN he is still considering Ohio State, along with, of course, Florida. He is set to announce his college decision on Feb. 5.
