UF, ESPN 300 LB James Hearns part ways
By Derek Tyson
Florida parted ways with ESPN 300 linebacker James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) on Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound middle linebacker, who visited Auburn last weekend, said a Florida coach called him on Thursday to inform him.
"They called me today and I was in the process of qualifying in terms of academics," Hearns said, "and Florida really didn't want to wait. Maybe visiting other schools had something to do with it, but they didn't come out and say that."
Hearns said he is still unsure of what he will do going forward.
"I fly to Kentucky tomorrow for a visit, then next weekend is open now that Florida is done," he said. "I don't really know. I'll have to sit down and talk to my coaches and see what schools need linebackers. If I don't make a decision here soon, it might be after signing day when I make a decision."
The Gators now stand at 26 verbal commitments. Florida has three linebackers, Matt Rolin, Alex Anzalone and Daniel McMillian, who are already enrolled.
