UF weekend visitor preview
By Derek Tyson
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Signing day is just around the corner and this will be the second-to-last weekend Florida can host official visitors.
The Gators are planning on bringing in three official visitors and a few 2014 unofficial visitors.
Florida wide receiver commit Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) was scheduled to visit Florida last weekend, but because he wants to be hosted by his best friend, Florida running back Matt Jones, Bailey rescheduled his visit to this weekend.
Offensive tackle commit Rod Johnson (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage) will also be taking his official visit to Florida. Johnson committed to Florida back in March, before reopening his commitment in August. Johnson later recommitted to Florida in December, and it now appears that his commitment is very solid to Florida.
The most surpring visitor this weekend is Florida State running back commitment Levonte "Kermitt" Whitfield (Orlando, Fla./Jones). The 5-foot-11, 176-pound athlete has been committed to FSU since August. With several coaching changes having taken place at FSU, the Gators are hoping to convince the talented back to switch his commitment.
In addition to the three official visitors, there are two big-time 2014 prospects expected on campus Saturday.
ESPN Watch List running back Sony Michel (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) will be on Florida's campus for a track meet. Though it might not be a real visit, the Florida coaching staff is hoping to get any face time it can get with the talented back.
Michigan 2014 offensive tackle commit Denzel Ward, who recently announced he would transfer from Hales Fransiscan High School in Chicago to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., is also expected to be on campus on Saturday. The Watch List tackle already has a Florida offer.
