Florida weekend recruiting preview
By Derek Tyson
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Though Florida has met a majority of its recruiting needs, the Gators are still hosting a group of important prospects this weekend.
The list of visitors is headlined by five-star defensive end Robert Nkemdiche (Loganville, Ga/Grayson), the nation's No. 1-ranked player. Nkemdiche has had Ole Miss and LSU on top since the Under Armour All-America practice week, but the Gators have a need at defensive end and are doing everything they can to get back in the picture.
Joining Nkemdiche in Gainesville will be Auburn defensive end commit Tashawn Bower (Somerville, N.J./Immaculata) and uncommitted fullback Kennard Swanson (Lakeland, Fla./Lake Gibson).
Swanson has been a lean to Florida since decommitting from LSU in November. If his academics are in order, he could potentetially pull the trigger for the Gators this weekend.
Florida is also bringing in several committed players for official and unofficial visits. Wide receivers Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) and Marqui Hawkins (Columbus, Ga./Carver), safety Keanu Neal and defensive end/tackle Antonio Riles (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer) will be on officials.
Defensive tackle Caleb Brantley (Crescent City, Fla./Crescent City), safety Nick Washington (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian), Hargreaves and defensive end Jordan Sherit (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough) are all expected for unofficial visits.
Georgia defensive back commit Shaq Wiggins (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) had planned to visit this weekend, but said Thursday that after a talk with Mark Richt he would not make any more visits.
